Helly Hansen creates a storm with its new Sailing collection for summer 2017

Helly Hansen was born by the sea in 1877, and has been working ever since towards producing apparel of the highest quality and design for professional sailors. Trusted by professionals for its unique designs and incomparable durability, Helly Hansen continues to create gear that focuses on the technical features to protect users from the volatile conditions the oceans can bring.

The new collection for 2017 offers something for everyone; from the offshore racer to the inshore cruiser, and those aspiring to a marine lifestyle.

Taking inspiration from Ægir, the Norse god of the sea, Helly Hansen expands its Ægir Ocean Racing line in 2017. Offering ease of movement, more streamlined designs and better breathability, the Ægir Race Jacket is the premium choice for deep water races lasting several days. Smaller pockets and zippers create a sleek and lighter design with the high-vis and SOLAS details you’d expect from a race jacket. Paired with the Ægir Race Salopette, you’ll remain agile and protected through rough waves and big seas. A softshell top, seat and knee reinforcements, in addition to minimal bulk over-the-shoulder designs, keep you mobile throughout your time on the water.

Øyvind Vedvik, Category Managing Director for Sailing at Helly Hansen, comments, “This jacket’s fabric has been put through multiple trials – from lab tests to the torture test known as the Volvo Ocean Race. It is simply the most waterproof fabric the company has tested while still allowing for breathability.”

Both the jacket and salopette are available in a women’s version and boast the brand’s new proprietary ultra-waterproof Helly Tech® composite membrane, allowing 4-ply protection in a 3-ply fabric.

For those who love high-paced, in-shore sailing, Helly Hansen introduces the HP Foil line for men and women: the HP Foil Smock Top and HP Foil Jacket. Offering Helly Tech Professional 3-ply fabric construction, keeping users protected on windy days, these tops are fully seam-sealed with a jersey brushed interior, for next-to-skin comfort on warmer days out on the water.

Øyvind Vedvik comments, “With our cruising and inshore racing lines, we wanted to reach out further to the offshore crowd. Both the Ægir Race and HP Foil collections offer a new group of watersport enthusiasts who love the intensity, but desire ease of movement.”

Each product continues Helly Hansen’s commitment to working with professionals to design and provide the most durable and trusted gear possible.
