Stella Maris Yachting, whose name is synonymous with providing whole-life support and management to sailing and motor yacht owners, has established its own in-house brokerage.
The company has appointed experienced broker Richard Reis, who has previously led several Boatshed south coast franchises, to formally establish the brokerage business. “While Stella Maris Yachting has for a long time been guiding owners through the buying and selling process, as part of its whole-life support service, the time is now right for the company to set up its own in-house brokerage list,” comments Richard, who becomes Senior Yacht Broker.
Stella Maris Yachting (SMY) has facilities in the UK and Europe and has specialised in every aspect of management from refit planning and execution, in-house engineering support in the UK and Europe, yacht insurance through its partner ZIS Insurance to voyage planning and delivery of motor and sailing yachts.
Many blue water adventure cruisers, classic yachts and medium to large sized motor yachts have been managed by SMY. “By establishing our own brokerage, we have finally ‘closed the loop’ by being able to take each owner right from the start to the end of their ownership of a vessel,” explains Richard.
The company already has a number of yachts on their books including a Fairline Squadron 58 and a Dixon 62 Ketch.
The SMY brokerage model sits apart from other brokerages in that it concentrates on a unique relationship with each prospective owner. “We guide the would-be buyer to the right yacht for their intended purpose, and we are still there to provide support once the purchase has taken place,” adds Richard. “It’s easy to fall in love with a classic yacht or globetrotting cruiser but be put off by the idea of managing an extensive refit. SMY can guide the buyer through the buying process and restore the yacht to an exceptional standard of readiness for sailing as well, while helping the owner become familiar with every aspect of the yacht’s management and maintenance before embarking on their first voyage.”
The capacity and skill set at SMY enables the company to offer a pan-European brokerage service. Operating a UK operation in Southampton and a European operation in Spain enables the company to list yachts all around Europe and for Richard and his team to be available internationally.
Richard sums up “Our brokerage can be used independently of other services of course, but essentially SMY offers this new resource as the first step in the process of the period of ownership.”
