Slingsby Announced as Ladies Day Sponsor at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week 2016

Cowes Week Ltd, organisers of the world’s best-known sailing regatta and highlight of the British Sporting Summer, are delighted to announce another addition to their family of supporting sponsors as Slingsby Artisan Gin joins  Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week as the Official sponsor of Ladies Day.

Slingsby Artisan Gin is a small batch produced London Dry Gin from the beautiful North Yorkshire spa town, Harrogate.  It is made with the finest natural and locally sourced botanicals, Harrogate aquifer water and pure single grain spirit. The key botanicals are locally grown plants that are synonymous with the beautiful and restorative nature of Harrogate and the core juniper is complemented with other botanicals that have been sourced from around the world.

It pays tribute to William Slingsby, who, in 1571, discovered the unique properties of natural spring water from the Tewit Well in Harrogate.  Since then, discerning individuals have sought out the picturesque Yorkshire  town to restore body, mind and soul by relaxing, indulging and socialising.

Slingsby are proud to be supporting Ladies Day at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week, Amy McLeod, Marketing Manager at Spirit of Harrogate Ltd said “We are delighted to be the official sponsor of Ladies Day at Cowes Week. Ladies Day is a fantastic event that recognises the successes of many female sailors and we are extremely proud to be a part of this. We look forward to hosting the evening reception at which the Ladies Day trophy will be awarded.”

Commenting on the announcement, CWL’s Commercial & Marketing Director, Kate Johnson, said: “We’re extremely pleased to welcome Slingsby to Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week 2016. We are looking to work together to develop a range of exciting plans for Slingsby Ladies Day in 2016, both on and off the water, offering lots of opportunities for our competitors and spectators to enjoy Slingsby. We will again be encouraging all the ladies at the event to dress in traditional nautical stripes, and boats with women on board will be flying a Slingsby Ladies Day flag”.

Ladies Day will return to Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week on Tuesday 9th August with a number of celebrations culminating in the presentation of the Ladies Day Trophy at an exclusive evening reception.  Ladies Day was introduced for the first time in 2006 to champion the role of women in sailing and to celebrate both female achievement and participation in the sport.

There are some 8,000 competitors taking part in the regatta and around a third of them are female.  Sailing is one of the few mainstream sporting events where men and women can compete on equal terms and the strength of female competitors has grown with a 150% increase in female skippers over the last decade.

In 2015 British yachtswoman Libby Greenhalgh, navigator with Team SCA,  was the tenth deserving winner of the Ladies Day Trophy in recognition of her phenomenal achievements. Nominations for this year’s winner will open shortly.

This year’s Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week takes place between August 6 and 13.  For more information about the event visit the official website: www.aamcowesweek.co.uk
