Helly Hansen HP QD Shorts

REVIEW: Helly Hansen HP QD Shorts

Helly Hansen have managed to come up with probably the most versatile shorts I’ve ever owned.  The Hydro Power (HP) shorts are quick drying (QD) and are aimed at the high end sailing and dinghy market but they excel at so much more.

Having worn them almost constantly for a season now, I can state with some authority that you’d struggle to find a more comfortable pair of shorts.  The main material has a slight stretch to it and the seat is reinforced for better wear resistance.

They don’t snag or grip the legs and hang well wet or dry.  If you do get them wet, they dry quickly (as it says in the name) and don’t lose their shape.

The HP QD Shorts have an innovative elasticated belt feature that sits, hidden away in the waistband, but can be cinched tight with velcro when required.  There’s also belt loops, double snap fasteners and, as extra security, a metal hook and loop to keep the shorts in their place.

The side pockets are deep and are zipped which is great for stopping the contents disgorging when getting in and out of dinghies and kayaks.

The usual Helly Hansen attention to detail is evident in details such as the pocket seams that are finished both inside and outside the pocket so there’s no unfinished edges to fray.

There’s also a discreet kill cord loop which is a must for those on RIB’s or motorboats.

RRP is £75.00 which, for a technical short, is about right.
