Helly Hansen HP HT Shorts

REVIEW – Helly Hansen HP HT Shorts

The HP HT shorts are aimed at the warm weather boaters and would suit everyone from the yachtsman to the dinghy sailor or kayaker.

After reviewing the Helly Hansen HP QD Shorts last year, we were keen to try the technical version, the HP HT (Hydro Power Helly Tech) this season.

The HP HT shorts are aimed at the warm weather boaters and would suit everyone from the yachtsman to the dinghy sailor or kayaker.

The shorts are constructed of hard wearing Helly Tech Performance fabric which sheds the water easily and breaths to stop overheating.  They have a mesh lining for comfort and to stop the itchy feel normally associated with sitting for any length of time in damp clothing.

There are two hand pockets and a leg pocket; all of which have mesh corners to aid draining along with velcro tab closures.  The leg pocket also has a zip.

The fly has an interesting ‘bellows’ flap feature that helps keep the shorts waterproof against sea spray/splashes through the zip.

As with the HP QD shorts, there is a built-in belt but, in this case, it features a more secure webbing strap rather than elastic.  Well thought out, it can be pinched tight on either side with the excess webbing being hidden away in the waistband.

The shorts are fastened with 2 press studs as well as a metal hook and loop so they won’t accidentally come undone.  The semi high waist keeps the lower back warm in a breeze and stops the shorts riding down when bent over.

In use, the shorts were comfortable, even after a soaking, and could be worn all day without feeling damp or clammy.

They were great for taking a dip in the sea without needing to get changed and dried very quickly once back onboard.
