Helly Hansen Crew H²Flow Jacket

REVIEW: Helly Hansen Crew H²Flow Jacket

The H²Flow jacket from Helly Hansen was designed as one of their most versatile mid-layer jackets to date.  Built to withstand a wide variety of conditions and scenarios.

REVIEW: Helly Hansen Crew H²Flow JacketThe first thing we noticed is the unusual lining.  It comprises of a mesh interspersed with vertical tubes of Polartec insulation.  The effect is to provide an air pocket around the body without adding too much bulk and with a high degree of temperature control.

The jacket feels comfortably warm when first worn without feeling too hot.  Should your workload increase and you heat up, there are two ventilation zips either side of the main front zip.  These work surprisingly well and quickly adjust the temperature of the air pocket inside the jacket.

The jacket sports a high collar which is fleece (tricot) lined and very comfortable.  It also hides the fully adjustable, peaked hood (on our review version).

As with all Helly Hansen products, you can see the thought that has gone into them as well as the attention to detail.  Little things such as the fastener that holds the waist drawstring toggle and actually has a second fastener to keep it out if the way once you’ve cinched it up.

Another nice touch is the plastic D ring below the right hand pocket.  Great for attaching a kill-cord, or a sailing knife to keep in the pocket.

This is a very comfortable jacket that is perfect for the cooler days and evenings on and off the water, especially when a chilly wind picks up.

It packs down to a small size and can be thrown in any kitbag without taking up too much room.

I found the hand-warmer pockets slightly on the small side but it’s a small niggle for a well rounded jacket.
