Helly Hansen kindly gave him a HH JR Drysuit to try out. Here’s his first review…
Having only worn wet suits, I was really looking forward to trying a drysuit out and keeping warm. I was loving sailing, but being cold and wet was shortening my sailing time.
From the moment I put my suit on it felt so comfortable and fitted like a glove. Getting the neck seal on was easy and it was a very soft next to my skin.
The suit looked big to begin with until I ‘burped’ it to get the excess air out, then it was a perfect fit.
The suit is made from a soft fabric, making moving my arms and legs easy. The rubber neck and cuff seals were a great fit, I’m not a big 10 year old and they fitted my small neck perfectly.
The length of the legs where fine and the boots kept my feet really warm. I needed to go up two sizes in a wet suit boot to get my feet, with socks and the suit on, into the boot.
Moving around the boat in the suit felt like I had my normal clothes on, I was not restricted at all. Inside, the suit had adjustable suspenders which helped hold the it in place and prevent sagging.
I really like the velcro legs to tighten the suit around my ankles as again I am not big and most suits feel too baggy. Also the reflectors on the suit would be good in bad weather although the day I wore my suit the conditions were ok so we could not test them out.
The suit comes in black and has extra fabric on the knees and seat, all the right places, to prevent wear and tear.
I loved the suit. It kept me dry and warm and helped my finish first in my weekends races.
