Poole powerboat instructor Arran Scott (30) this weekend (14/15 May) heads to Scarborough for the opening round of the P1 SuperStock Powerboat Championship. Scott has been racing boats for several years and heading into his third year in the Powerboat P1 SuperStock Championship is looking to get the season off to a flying start.
The 2016 season will see Arran compete in the number 99 P1 SuperStock Panther sponsored by Arthur J Gallagher one of the world’s largest insurance brokerage and risk management companies.
Arran’s Co-pilot for the opening round at Scarborough will be Music Producer Chris Young. Chris is a gold disk awarded pianist, songwriter, producer and vocal producer based out of Chestnut Studios in London. Throughout his career Young has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry including Kylie, Jason Derulo, Lionel Richie and Rod Stewart.
The 2015 season saw mixed results for Scott but he will be hoping that any misfortunes will now be behind him and that he can get the season off to a strong start with another win in Scarborough.
The P1 SuperStock Championship is one of the most accessible, affordable and competitive forms of Motorsport where sponsors and racers can be sure of a level playing field and low costs. An exciting form of motorsport, The P1 SuperStock championship is using standardised machinery meaning that performance is based entirely on driver-navigator skill.
The series provide dramatic yet safe and affordable racing and has succeeded in introducing the average boating enthusiast to the thrilling world of powerboat racing with standardised machinery throughout.
The opening round at Scarborough will see the Arthur J Gallagher Team of Arran Scott and Chris Young compete against 10 other top British Powerboat Racing Teams. In total they will compete over 5 Rounds, where each event is held over 2 days and are all sanctioned through the RYA to become 2016 P1 SuperStock Champions. Within each round there are 3 races, making a total of 15 point scoring races. At the end of each race weekend race points are totalled up to determine the round winner.
On the upcoming Season Scott had this to say “Scarborough was a brilliant opening round to the season last year and hopefully this year it will be even better.”
He continued “I’ve spent lots of time on the water over the winter training and Chris has really taken to the training over the last few months and we’re raring to go. We’re hoping to get a strong start to the season and build on it from there.”
