Lincoln’s Jonathan Brewer (13) was yesterday awarded the RYA North West Regional Youth Champion Award for 2015 in a presentation at The RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show at Alexandra Palace.
The Priory Academy LSST student has been racing powerboats for 4 years now after following into the sport after his father and grandparents before him, he competes as part of the Jelf Racing Team sponsored by Peters & May Racing and local companies Your Print Partner and Castlemaine Accountancy.
Jonathan’s nomination for the RYA Regional Youth Champion Award came following a fantastic season for the youngster that saw him secure a double Silver medal in the Powerboat GP RYA British and RYA British Sprint Championships and a European UIM Silver Medal in the GT15 Powerboat Racing Championships and saw him secure a podium finish at every Powerboat GP Event throughout 2015.
As only the 4th Powerboat Racer to be recognized in the RYA Youth Championship Awards this accolade is testament to Jonathan’s dedication to his sport and fellow team mates. Throughout the season he has offered to support to the rest of his team mates and offered advice where he can to the younger members of the team and his fellow competitors.
During the Nottingham Grand Prix whilst his peers were playing on their bikes and skateboards Jonathan was helping the organisers by putting up banners to brand the event before the international competitors arrived.
Throughout the 2015 season Jonathan has conducted himself in a very professional manner both on and off the water and is a credit to his family, team, club and sport.
Team Manager Colin Jelf former F2 Triple World Champion had this to say on the youngster’s latest accolade “Jonathan’s worked really hard this season both on and off the water. He’s been a vital part of the Peters & May Jelf Racing Team and we’re all really proud of him and how much he’s grown and developed as a racer this year and how well he’s fitted into the team.”
“To have received the 2015 RYA North West Regional Youth Champion Award is no mean feat. There are so many talented youngsters in all the disciplines and sports that RYA is the governing body for and Powerboat Racing is such a small fraction so it makes Jonathan’s award all the more important for Jonathan, the team and the sport of Powerboat Racing.”
“I’m really honored to have been awarded The RYA North West Regional Youth Champion Award. These awards attract a high standard of competitor from several sports to have even been nominated is fantastic but have actually won is awesome.” Commented Jonathan
“Last year was a fantastic season and I’m really chuffed to receive this award. I couldn’t have done that without the support of all the Jelf Racing team and our sponsors, Peters & May Racing, YourprintPartner.co.uk and Castlemaine Accountancy, as well as my family and friends. I’d also like to congratulate all the other Regional Champions on their awards and achievements. I’m already looking forward to the 2016 and hopefully I can bring more trophies back to the team.”
