The Royal Ocean Racing Club has announced that the Volvo 70 Tschüss 2, owned by Christina Zugel and skippered by Johnny Mordaunt, is the overall winner of the 2024 Roschier Baltic Sea Race. Tschüss 2 also won IRC Zero and set a new Roschier Baltic Sea Race Outright Record of 2 Days 5 Hrs 6 Mins and 41 Secs.
With all the boats racing now accounted for, Tschüss 2 has scored the best time after IRC time correction. RORC Member Christian Zugel will be presented with the Baltic Sea Race Trophy on Friday 2nd August at the Roschier Baltic Sea Race Prizegiving.
Overall Runner-up after IRC time correction is RORC Member Per Roman racing JPK 1180 Garm(SWE), and in third place is First 36.7 Pro4U (SWE) powered by the KSSS Offshore Clinic, the youth team from the Royal Swedish Yacht Club.
“A fantastic race with great organization. We couldn’t have been happier to be in the Roschier Baltic Sea Race,” commented Christian Zugel. “The race was much windier than predicted and the breeziest offshore race for Tschüss this year. I think we actually won the race on the first day, not in the strong wind later on.
“From the start to the Almagrundet Lighthouse off the Stockholm Archipelago we read the weather well and our tactics worked out to our benefit. This gave us the advantage because on the second day in the strong winds it was pretty rough for Tschüss and our timing into this change made it difficult to get to top speed in the confused sea state.
“It is a race that that anybody can do well in; if you look at 2nd and 3rd place, they are from IRC One and Two. Even though Tschüss 2 was far ahead on the water, on corrected time, the win was only by about four hours, which is not a lot after three days of racing. Tschüss 2 sends our congratulations to Per Roman’s Garm and the KSSS Youth Team on Pro4U, they sailed extremely well and deserve their super results.”
