Mastervolt joins a select group of trusted equipment manufacturers to provide technical advice and support for sailors ‘living the dream’ on a 27-month rally
Mastervolt, the leading supplier of off-grid electrical systems, has been invited by a major customer, UK-based Oyster Yachts, to become the official supplier of electrical services for its forthcoming World Rally.
The Rally will see some 33 Oyster yachts take part in the voyage of a lifetime, sailing a route that will ‘take in some of the most beautiful regions of the world, with generous cruising time at the end of each passage, and making the best of the seasonal weather patterns.’
Participants will also be supplied with shore support at each stop-over, and plenty of technical advice in the lead up to the assembly area in Antigua next year.
Mastervolt is the installer of choice in nearly all Oyster new builds, a range of elegant and superbly engineered luxury sailing yachts built on a semi-custom basis in two yards, one on the South Coast, and the other in Norfolk. The dependability and ease-of-use of Mastervolt products, along with their ability to resist extremes of temperature, vibration and movement, makes them ideal for the kind of cruising Oyster owners enjoy – global exploration to some of the remotest places a yacht can reach, often including the Polar Regions.
By becoming an official Rally partner, Mastervolt will be assisting owners with regular advice at various seminars, practical installations and upgrades, and helping with the design of new systems for yachts being built or fitted out specifically to take part in the Rally.
“Being so closely involved in this event works both ways,” explained Mastervolt UK’s Nick Holland. “Our brand is already recognized as the must-have installation for dependable power afloat, as witnessed by our key role in the recent Volvo Ocean Race. However, providing power for highly advanced cruising yachts, which will need all their creature comforts on this tropical route, especially high loads like powered winches and air conditioning, all helps with feedback so we can continually evolve the products.”
Mastervolt has already attended the first of the pre-Rally seminars, and practical demonstrations of the big advantages of the new generation of Lithium Ion Ultra batteries have convinced several owners to swap-out their existing lead-acid batteries for the lighter and much longer-lived Mastervolt alternative.
The Rally will begin from Antigua in January 2017, and enjoy several of the Caribbean islands before the yachts regroup at the entrance to the Panama Canal in March.
