The Royal Southern Yacht Club wins the Sailing Today ‘Yacht Club of the Year’ Award 2015

The Royal Southern Yacht Club is extremely proud to have been announced today as the ‘overwhelming winner’ of the Sailing Today ‘Yacht Club of the Year’ Award 2015, sponsored by Rolly Tasker Sails.

Sailing Today is published by Chelsea Magazines and is a sister publication to Yachts & Yachting and Classic Boat magazines. The magazine launched its own awards earlier in the Summer to recognise the best the marine industry and the cruising world have to offer.

The Royal Southern was nominated for this Award by Marketing & Media consultant Peta Stuart-Hunt who mounted a strong campaign using social media.  Once shortlisted, this was supported by the Club’s own membership to garner votes.

During the packed Awards Reception, held earlier today on the opening day of the Southampton Boat Show, the nominations were read out and the Commodore Chris Mansfield, Rear Commodore Sailing Graham Nixon and Club Manager Alan Feltham were present supporting the Club, having been shortlisted for the Award.

Announcing the Royal Southern as the winning ‘Yacht Club of the Year’, Sailing Today editor, Sam Fortescue, said: “There is no doubt here, as readers voted overwhelmingly for the senior Hamble club. It has just commissioned the 66 berth Prince Philip Yacht Haven for members and visitors.  The club is actively encouraging younger sailors and the development of race officers.

“Yacht clubs around the country rely on the sterling work of volunteers, and all our nominees were prime examples. The Royal Southern is a beacon for active sailors and continues to drive the racing and cruising scene on the South Coast.”

Receiving the Award on behalf of the Royal Southern Yacht Club, the Commodore Chris Mansfield commented: “I would like to thank Sailing Today for shortlisting the Royal Southern and everyone who voted for us. It gives me great pleasure to accept this award on behalf of the members and officers of the Royal Southern Yacht Club.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteers for their time, hard work and commitment. Year on year we are running more events and in September alone, we are hosting four National Championships.  We are honoured and immensely proud of the fact that our efforts have been recognised through this award.”
