Dometic debuts the marine industry’s first patented, removable freezer compartment, which can transform the CRX into a refrigerator-only unit
Leading marine equipment supplier Dometic Marine will launch the Dometic CRX Refrigerator/Freezer, a durable built-in refrigerator for boats, at the International Boatbuilders’ Exhibition and Conference (IBEX), from September 15th to 17th in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Dometic CRX is the first marine refrigerator with a patented, easy slide-out removable freezer compartment which transforms the unit into a larger capacity refrigerator-only, or a freezer-only unit. The CRX also has the first and only innovative flush-mount electronic thermostat control panel, located on the interior side wall where users can easily reach it. In addition, a powerful three-speed variable compressor automatically adjusts for optimum performance and noise reduction.
“The CRX provides boaters with three options for the first time, allowing them to choose to use the unit as a fridge/freezer, just a refrigerator, or as a unit to keep their items ice-cold in temperatures as low as 17°F,” said Kester Petersson, Head of Business Development and Marketing EMEA – Marine Aftermarket, Dometic. “The easy-slide freezer compartment has no moving parts, and is simple to remove or put back, with no tools required. Boaters can raise or lower the temperature to suit their needs, using flat, space-saving soft-touch controls.”
IBEX participants can see the Dometic CRX at Booth 1943. The fridge/freezer is available in three sizes: the 45-litre CRX-50, 57-litre CRX-65, and 78-litre CRX-80. The CRX’s sleek, modern style includes a recessed, full-width door handle.
The unit’s workings include Dometic’s most advanced refrigeration technology, with a powerful three-speed variable compressor. At start-up, the compressor runs at mid speed, switches to high speed for temperature pull down, then runs at a quiet low speed while maintaining the set point. The unit also has an ice-pick protected evaporator.
A flush-mount, flat control panel features the soft-touch temperature controls, on/off switch, and bright LED lamp triggered by a reliable infrared sensor. An error indicator LED flashes system diagnostic codes so owners can easily troubleshoot issues. The flat control panel allows for more usable storage space.
The CRX’s cooling system is enhanced with a tube and fin condenser that provides greater performance, durability and corrosion resistance over the traditional wire condenser. A large fan provides better cooling performance, especially in conditions with high ambient temperatures.
The CRX is extra-durable due to its low-vibration design. It has assured clearance between components and tubing, and a foamed mounting plate gives all components a solid and quiet mounting base.

At the IBEX show, Dometic will also be exhibiting its award-winning CRD-1050 Drawer Refrigerator, which also features a removable freezer compartment. The CRD-1050 has a 47-litre capacity, with a 6-litre freezer that is removable to fit more or larger items needing refrigeration only, or lower the overall temperature for freezing only.
In 2014, the CRD-1050 won a Fisheries Supply Innovation award, recognising its advanced design and refrigeration technology. It has a durable metal frame construction; the door’s face panel comes in stainless steel, black or brushed-metal finish, with a sleek, modern recessed door handle. A flush-mount or space-saver flange is available in black, silver or stainless steel. In heavy seas, the locking mechanism keeps the door securely closed. Using the lock’s venting feature allows easy defrosting and mildew prevention.
The CRD-1050 is powered by a fully hermetic compressor with integrated control electronics. It is connection-ready for 12/24V DC or 110/220V AC operation, and has low-voltage protection.
