Series of special events at luxury venue on Karpaz peninsula will launch range of summer activities at marina and North Cyprus region
Karpaz Gate Marina has announced the details of a four-day ‘Sailing Season Celebrations’ event to be held at the 5 Gold Anchor marina from Wednesday, June 10 to Saturday, June 13.
The festivities at the luxury marina on the Karpaz peninsula in North Cyprus begin on Wednesday, June 10 with a cocktail reception and ceremony at 19:00 on the Promenade to mark the arrival of the 26th EMYR (Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally). The rally participants, who set off from Çesme Marina on the Aegean coast of Turkey on May 6, will sail directly from Girne to berth at Karpaz Gate Marina for a five-day stay, departing on Sunday, June 14.
Up to 13 boats from the TRNC Sailing Federation’s Caretta Caretta rally are also scheduled to arrive at the marina to join in the celebrations.
On Thursday, June 11, a special pre-cinema dinner menu priced at TL 30 per person will be on offer at Hemingway’s Resto-Bar between 18:00 and 20:00 ahead of the open screening of the 1990 version of ‘The Old Man and The Sea’, based on the novel by Ernest Hemingway, at the Karpaz Gate Marina Art Gallery at 20:00.
The new Karpaz Gate Marina Sailing Club will be officially launched on Friday, June 12, at 18:00 with an introductory speech by the club president, Efe Karahan Sahin, who will outline the future plans for the club. Some of the new Optimist and Laser dinghies, which will be used for teaching local children, visitors and berth-holders, will be on display at the launch event.
Special guests Osman Atasoy and Sibel Karasu, who were the first Turkish sailors to sail to Antartica during a four-year trip on their 14-metre sailboat, will then present a speech about their adventures.
The events will culminate on Saturday, June 13, with the big Beach Club Party with DJ, starting at 16:00 until late. Visitors, guests, berth-holders and local residents are all welcome to attend the party at the spectacular beach setting with nearby infinity pool.
Renowned international photographer Bugsy Gedlek will also be on hand to capture the celebrations.
“We are really excited to announce the special Sailing Season Celebrations event this year and to welcome the participants of the two rallies over the same weekend,” said Harbour Master Deniz Akaltan. “Combining the visit of our special sailing guests and speakers with the official launch of our new Sailing Club and our Beach Club party will create a fantastic atmosphere during the four days. It will be a great way for everyone to enjoy our facilities and discover all we have to offer for the season ahead.”
The luxury North Cyprus marina has expanded its range of leisure options this year. In addition to the new summer sailing lessons, morning and sunset Yoga sessions were also introduced in the spring.
Other watersports on offer include scuba diving tours and courses with diving school Mephisto, kayaking, snorkelling and the use of a water float, while the Beach Club features a 33m infinity pool, private beach, Beach Bar, Jacuzzi, children’s pool and decking area with private Cabanas and loungers. The marina Beach Club is free for berth holders, with a daily entrance fee of 10TL for other visitors.
Serving international and traditional Cypriot cuisine, Hemingway’s Resto-Bar on the marina Promenade features special Music Nights, in addition to the nightly Happy Hour between 17:00 and 19:00.
Additional regular events include international and Turkish Movie Nights every Tuesday and Thursday at the marina Art Gallery, with drinks available and a pre-cinema set menu, Sunset BBQs and the Mini Mariners club.
Visitors to the 5 Gold Anchor marina on the Karpaz peninsula can also chose to attend some of the popular annual events at nearby towns in North Cyprus, which include the Iskele Festival, the Girne International Culture & Art Festival, the International Famagusta Culture & Art Festival and the International North Cyprus Music Festival.
