Two offshore powerboat champions from Saundersfoot have secured sponsorship from the Port of Milford Haven’s £70 million regeneration scheme ‘Milford Waterfront’.
Brother and sister Daisy and Sam Coleman claimed the P1 Superstock National Championship title in Bournemouth last month and were the first team in the series’ history to podium at every event.
The achievement has been widely acknowledged due to the fact that neither came from a boating background and Daisy, the co-pilot, had no boating experience until four years ago when she was discharged from the Royal Artillery on medical grounds. She has since gone on to win the P1 Sports Personality of the Year to add to the impressive medal haul that Coleman Racing have achieved.
The duo visited Milford Marina earlier in the summer as part of the marina’s 25th anniversary celebrations and made such an impression that they have now secured sponsorship from the Milford Waterfront development, which will include financial support for the upcoming season.
Sam Coleman commented “Coleman Racing are proud to partner with Milford Waterfront to showcase the wonderful facilities on a national and global scale. We are always looking to promote the best that Pembrokeshire, and Wales, has to offer. Having raced all over the UK there are not many that come close to what we have on our door step here in Milford: excellent restaurants, marina facilities and a gateway to viewing the stunning Pembrokeshire coast from the water! We’ll be using Milford Waterfront as our base for training and testing throughout the winter, as well as hosting experience days in the coming year with a variety of boats and jet skis on show.”
Neil Jenkins, Destination Director at the Port of Milford Haven, said “It’s fantastic to see the Colemans excelling in powerboat racing and we’re delighted to become proud sponsors of the team. The Milford Waterfront development will celebrate the exciting range of watersports available to people of all abilities and hopefully will produce even more champions from Pembrokeshire like Sam and Daisy.”
The Port of Milford Haven received a resolution to grant planning consent from Pembrokeshire County Council in 2015 for the future development on the marina, which will create new, exciting attractions and revitalise the existing waterfront destination by adding a mix of local, regional and national brands within the leisure, retail, residential, office and dining sectors. It is envisaged that as well as creating around 600 long term jobs it will provide a boost to the local economy through increased local spending and an uplift in visitor numbers.
